The Monthly Nugget - (emailed early December 2008)

December 2008
Longevity . . .
I’m not sure if God is trying to tell me how slow my mind functions or if this idea is just so powerful that it ubiquitously surrounds just about every facet of my existence. Let me explain…
The month of November was monumental. For one, Thanksgiving simply rocks for me. I love the feel and vibe and reasoning behind the Holiday. I have always told my children that when they leave my home to take on life for themselves, I hope to have drilled two concepts into their psyche - honesty and gratitude. There’s simply no excuse not to have these two lifestyles present every single day of your life. I’m rambling. But my love for Thanksgiving is huge and that makes November special.
November ‘o8 was more special than normal due to the fact that I was privileged to renew my parents’ wedding vows in celebration of their 50th anniversary. Hear me well, fond friends, few things in life will have a chance of ever surpassing the magnitude of that moment. I humbly stood before my parents who devoted themselves to each other one-half century ago. They have made it through a multitude of highs and lows, crises and crests, the pinches of life as well as the pinnacles. 50 years later they are still in love.
I couldn’t help but to think how symbolic the 50th anniversary is for leadership. The law of process is simply massive in influencing people and leading them to higher ground. I want to be a leader that lasts, you guys. I don’t want to fall by the wayside because I became haughty or misguided. I don’t want to fade out before I lead others to the level God intended. I don’t want to quit before I cross the proverbial finish line.
And here’s where it gets really simple. To finish, don’t stop. To keep growing, don’t stop taking intentional steps to obtain growth. To have longevity, understand that the law of process requires that every single day of your life you do something that has eternal significance. People always say they want to “leave a legacy.” I say in order to leave a legacy, you must “live a legacy.” Everyday. On the days you feel like leading, lead. On the days you don’t feel like leading, lead. Every single day.
50 years ago my parents chose their love, today they are still loving their choice. Look at leadership with the same lenses and ask yourself if you are DAILY living the law of process. Look at your own leadership standards you live by and ask yourself if you meet your own expectations each day.
At the end of each and every day ask yourself one question. “What did I do today that truly matters?” If you can answer that with no regret, that means you led with no regret, that means you loved with no regret, and that means you are one day closer to achieving longevity.

Catalyst Notes - Part Two
Tim Sanders
Scarcity is only in your mind.
You create abundance by giving. You create abundance with love.
Abundance is something you believe - it’s in your faith, it’s in you.
If your people do good, your organization will do good. Taking the time to build your people is taking time to build your organization.
Contagious Compassion - when you show others love, the people that see it are changed and hope is given to them. Contagious compassion is the ripple effect. Act and allow it to cause more actions that cause more and more and more actions.
Leaders gauge reality and give hope. (Pastors do the exact same)
